Easier Pathway for Nurses Applying to Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities and French-Speaking Skilled Worker Streams
On July 4, 2024, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program announced key changes regarding the educational requirements for nurses applying under the following streams: Express Entry Human Capital Priorities, and French-Speaking Skilled Worker. These changes will make it easier for nurses to use and increase the opportunities for capable nurses who want to establish a new life in Ontario.
A nurse is not anymore required to show documents proving that the education requirement is met if the following criteria are met:
Nurse Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario: General, Extended, or Temporary class, CNO.
Primary NOC Occupation: The primary NOC of nurses must be one of the following:
These changes show that Ontario is serious about addressing the healthcare workforce shortage and that it is determined to make the entry of experienced healthcare professionals into the province more seamless. These changes will result in the expansion of more possibilities for qualified nurses to come in and further stay due to the elimination of the educational demonstration requirement. That means Ontario's health system, under OINP, will continue to deliver its service with quality and at the highest level of delivery.
Giving chances of permanent residency to nurses who want to establish their career in Ontario will be very easy and fast because of this policy adjustment; this removal of barriers will save a lot of time and reduce paperwork burden, enabling nurses to put their focus on their professional interest and contributions they want to make in the health care sector.
Application Process
Where identified, eligible nurses can apply for the Human Capital Priorities or the French-speaking Skilled Worker stream through the express entry system. However, ensuring all other eligibility criteria are filled out properly and accurately will ensure a smooth application processing experience.
This change will go a long way toward the internationalization of Ontario as a great and attractive destination for skilled nurses. The new requirements offer plenty of opportunities to build the community's workforce in terms of healthcare services.
