Before you even begin, checking the Canada PR visa requirements ahead of time gives you an advantage.

Here are the key Canada PR visa rules that you should be aware of before starting your journey.

Basic Eligibility Criteria for Canada PR visa

1️⃣ Age
There's no set maximum age for applying for a Canadian PR visa. However, those who are between 18 and 35 will earn the most points in the “Express Entry program. Points decrease gradually as the applicant's age increases.

2️⃣ Education
minimum 3-year diploma will be required; however, having a bachelor's degree or higher will significantly increase your chances of obtaining a Canada PR visa. Please note that your foreign education needs to be evaluated through the process of an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) by a reputable organisation (like WES/IQAS). It may cost you $250, and the processing time will be 30-45 days.

3️⃣ Work Experience
You must have a minimum of one year's full-time, paid skilled job experience (in the NOC TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3) in the past 10 years. More years of work experience can increase your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

4️⃣ Language Proficiency
You must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in both English and French. For you, you can write IELTS/CELPIP/PTE core. The score requirements in IELTS are 6 bands in each module, also known as CLB 7. And for the French, you can write TEF Canada or TCF Canada.

Higher scores mean more CRS points, which increases the likelihood of receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA).

  • Canada PR Requirements: FAQ

Please find the most commonly asked questions for Canada PR requirements.

Q-    What documents are included in a PR visa application?

Documents such as your passport, IELTS score, ECA report, evidence of work experience, and bank statements for funds are required for Canada PR. A police clearance, a medical examination, and, if applying with family, marriage or birth certificates are also required. These demonstrate your readiness to settle in Canada.

Q-   What are the government application fees for Canada PR?

The processing and Right of Permanent Residence fees are included in the CAD 1,525 Canada PR government fee for a single applicant. It is also CAD 1,525 for a spouse and CAD 260 for each dependent child. Additionally necessary is a fingerprints fee of CAD 85 per individual or CAD 170 per family. These charges are distinct from other expenses such as medical, ECA, and IELTS fees.

Q - What is proof of funds for Canada PR?

The amount of money you need to demonstrate that you can pay for your family and yourself after relocating to Canada is known as proof of funds. Unless you have a legitimate job offer or are applying under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), it is a mandatory requirement under programs such as the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) and Federal Skilled Trades (FST). The necessary summary must be easily accessible in your bank account and is based upon the size of your family.

Q-   Do I need a job offer to apply for Canada PR?

No, in order to apply for Canada PR, you do not need a job offer. Invitations without one are sent to a great deal of applicants using the Express Entry system. On the other hand, a legitimate job offer from a Canadian company can improve your overall profile and raise your CRS score.

Q-   What is the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)?

Applicants in the Express Entry pool for Canada PR are preferred using a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Age, education, work history, language skills, flexibility, and job offers or provincial nominations are some of the criteria it uses to assess applicants. Your chances of being granted an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residence increase with your CRS score.

Q-  What is the age limit for Canada PR?

No, there isn't a set age limit to apply for permanent residence in Canada; your age has an important impact on your CRS score under Express Entry. Those between the ages of of 18 and 35 receive the most chances. After the age of 35, chances gradually decrease, and applicants over 45 do not receive any age points and your chances goes down. You can still apply if you fulfill other requirements, like having a provincial recommendation, a high IELTS score, or important and relevant work experience.

Q-  Is Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) mandatory?

Yes, it's mandatory; if you finished your schooling outside of Canada, you must take the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). It relates to the point that your foreign degree, diploma, or certification is on par with one issued in Canada. ECA helps you earn points for your education in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and is necessary for the majority of immigration processes, including Express Entry and PR.

Q- What are the basic requirements to apply for Canada PR from India?

You must be between the ages of 18 and 45, have at least one year of experience in a skilled job, have completed at least secondary school, and receive a CLB 7 on the IELTS in order to apply for permanent residence in Canada from India. Additionally, you will need to present proof of funds as well as certificates of police and medical clearance. These are the fundamental requirements for Express Entry and PNP programs.

Q- What is the minimum IELTS score required for Canada PR?

For Canada PR, you must have at least 6 bands in each of the Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking modules, with a minimum IELTS score of CLB 7. This relates to Express Entry's Federal Skilled Worker Program. Your CRS ranking can be raised and your chances of being chosen increased with higher scores.

Q- How many years of work experience are required?

You must have at least one year of full-time work experience, i.e., skilled work experience (or a required amount of part-time work experience), within the previous ten years in order to apply for Canada PR. An occupation specified under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 must be the subject of this experience. However, you can increase your chances of being selected and earn more points in the Express Entry system by gaining more years of work experience.
